Are you looking for stay at home mom jobs that actually make money from home?

When I came home from the hospital with my first baby I remember thinking “I want to stay home with my baby.”

I did for the first year (I live in Canada and our maternity leave is 1 year- I’m so thankful for that) but then I went back to work because that’s what we needed at the time. With my second baby, I had the same thought but I STILL went back to work because I just didn’t know that I could make money from home as a stay at home mom.

I thought that was for special, qualified people- not for me! After the birth of my third baby I thought “That’s IT. I’m staying home with my kids and I’m staying home for GOOD.”

I think that’s all you need if you want to make money working from home- a little bit of grit and determination to make it happen!

And a mindset where you BELIEVE in YOURSELF. No one else is going to do that for you- that’s not their job. That’s your job- to have a dream and believe in IT and YOURSELF.

You CAN do this. You CAN stay home with your sweet babies and MAKE MONEY.

There are no surveys on this list. I really really really do not like telling people about surveys as a way to make (serious) money. They’re kinda BS. How much is your time worth? A lot of those companies require you to put in a serious chunk of time before you make any money. And even when you do, it’s not much.

However-

I DO think there is a time and place for surveys. Are you wanting to try some while you’re sitting on the couch in the evening? Or what about when you’re putting kids to sleep? Survey Junkie pays you via Paypal which is nice- their surveys are easy and quick. Inbox Dollars gives you a free $5 sign up bonus- claim it here.

Here are the best ways to make money as a stay at home mom:

  • Child Care/ Day Care
  • Blogging
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Freelance Writing
  • Print on Demand
  • Bookkeeper
  • Proofreader
  • Life Coach
  • Flipping Items
  • Making Printables
  • Photography
  • House Cleaner

Child Care

Have you ever considered offering child care or daycare from your home? Running a daycare from your house means you get to stay home with your kids while having them interact with other kids!

You’d need to look into laws and licensing based on where you live.

This is such a cool option though because you can take as few kids as you want- some parents may even prefer that!

It does take planning though and it’s not an easy job- you will be looking after, entertaining and feeding small kids for 8+ hours per day.

Blogging

Let’s make something clear with blogging-

It is NOT a get rich quick scheme.

It takes time, perseverance and dedication to start seeing an income.

If you’re interested in seeing if blogging might be for you you can check out this comprehensive free how to start a blog guide by Carly Campbell.

She’s been blogging for 3 or 4 years and started making a full time income in less than a year! Now she makes 10-15 THOUSAND dollars a month with her mom blog!

I’m being dead serious when I say blogging is not for the faint of heart.

But, if you stick with it, you can start to see money coming in and that’s the best feeling in the world- to start making money from something YOU created from scratch.

You can grab Carly’s free blogging course here.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is pretty crazy awesome. You can sell anything (that you one hundred percent believe in and trust) to people online.

Affiliate marketing simply means to be affiliated with a product or company so that when you recommend that product or company to someone and they buy something- you get a percentage of the sale!

Think about every time you go online to search something-

Best running shoes for winter

How to get wine out of a white carpet

Washing machine on sale

Those are keywords, and everyone else searches for stuff like that too- every single day! And what are those people and you searching for?

Answers to questions. Solutions to problems.

If you can answer those questions and find solutions to people’s problems, they will be so happy that they’ll make a purchase and you will make an affiliate sale which puts money into your pocket!

Carly also offers a course on affiliate marketing that is helpful but I’d definitely only recommend taking it if you’ve already read her free blogging course or have a blog.

Update- I have PERSONALLY taken Carly’s affiliate marketing course and it is a GOLDMINE of information. I’ve taken at least 3 other affiliate marketing courses and this one has tips I’ve NEVER seen before!

Freelance Writing

legit work from home jobs for moms

Freelance writing is an amazing and lucrative work at home job that ANYONE can do. You do NOT need a creative writing degree, a journalism degree or anything like that!

You need the right mindset, a healthy dose of enthusiasm and a thick (ish) skin!

To freelance simply means to work on a self-employed basis.

So to be a freelance writer means that you are pitching your writing skills to blogs, magazines, businesses or websites and getting paid on a per assignment basis.

The beauty of this is that you control when you work, how often you work and eventually you can negotiate your rate as you get more experienced!

Check out The First Step To Be A Freelance Writer– it’s free and will give you a better understanding of what you’re in for! Make sure you sign up for the 6 day freelance writing email course- SO MUCH info, also for free.

Print on Demand

stay at home mom jobs no experience

Print on Demand has to be one the absolute coolest things I’ve ever learned about.

What is Print on Demand

Print-on-demand, or POD for short, is a printing process where you outsource all the production and shipping to a third-party fulfillment center.

It costs slightly more than a wholesale concept because you don’t have to order a certain quantity of inventory, you just place an order once a customer makes a sale and pay for the product’s base price.

You create all your own designs, then upload them to your POD supplier (Like Printed Mint or Printful), add the design to a t-shirt, mug, poster, and whatever else you want it on, and then sync them to your Etsy shop.

Printful makes it super easy by syncing to Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, and other marketplaces, so your orders will automatically go to Printful when someone makes a purchase.

It’s almost entirely automated, so you spend less time printing the products and standing in line at the post office, and more time creating new designs and marketing your products.

I had the honor of interviewing Mandy from A Girl’s Gotta Eat where she tells us exactly how she makes $1500-$6000 dollars a month with her Print on Demand stores (that’s $1500-$6000 per STORE!). You can read the interview here.

Bookkeeper

A bookkeeper sometimes gets confused with an accountant- they’re not the same at all! Being an accountant requires you to have a degree- a bookkeeper does not.

Bookkeeper are responsible for things like:

  • Updating financial records
  • Paying bills
  • Collecting payments on invoices
  • Checking records for accuracy
  • and more!

In short- a bookkeeper is a person who is responsible for recording all financial transactions- money coming in and money going out.

The average bookkeeper makes anywhere from $38,000 to $48,000 according to salary.com.

However-

That’s for bookkeepers employed by companies working for an hourly wage.

When you freelance, set your own wage, your own hours and work for multiple clients- you can make more. A LOT more.

How to become a bookkeeper:

Proofreader

You do NOT need a degree or any special certificate to be a proofreader.

All you need is the ability to pay attention to detail and a willingness to learn!

What is a proofreader?

A proofreader is someone who ensures a piece of content is free from grammatical, spelling, punctuation and formatting errors.

As you can see in the screenshot above from Upwork, specialties can range wildly.

When you’re first starting out, aim to get 3 clients who give you a full 5 star rating. Sometimes that means getting paid less than what you want but in the end that will bring you bigger returns when you get social proof that you’re good at what you do!

Also try to get small jobs with a quick turn-around time that you know you can do well- I call these ‘easy wins.’

How to become a proofreader:

  • Search for jobs on Indeed, FlexJobs or Upwork.
  • Create your own proofreading business! Proofread Anywhere is offering a free webinar if you’re interested in starting your own proofreading business.

Life Coach

legit work from home jobs for moms

Do you have incredible enthusiasm and a passion for cheering other people on (while still able to give them a dose of healthy metaphorical butt kicking when they need it?)

I’d recommend reading this book to see if Life Coaching is for you. I think you can even get it free if you sign up for the free Audible trial! (I usually sign up to listen to an audiobook and then cancel before 30 days.)

If you’re serious about becoming a Life Coach, you don’t have to get certified but you might have an easier time finding clients if you can talk about your certification.

Flipping Items To Sell on Ebay/Etsy/Facebook/Craigslist

This is honestly one of THE coolest jobs I’ve ever seen! You find items in garage sales, yard sales, flea markets, liquidation stores- wherever you can find a RIDICULOUSLY good deal on something.

Once you find a good deal and figure out what that item is actually worth- you can sell it at a higher price on Ebay, Etsy or Craigslist.

Vintage finds do really well on Etsy and Ebay.

But you can also find super random things at garage sales or flea markets like a commercial pizza dough roller- the owners of Flea Market Flipper picked one up for $100 and resold for $1750! Or an air purifier they found for $15 and sold for $150!

This is actually a lot of fun too if you enjoy looking for things. The people behind Flea Market Flipper make over $120,000 a YEAR doing this- and they have such a great time!

They’re offering a free webinar on how to do exactly what they do which you can sign up for here.

Printables

Printables are GREAT. You can use them as a freebie for your email list (give something valuable away in return for an email address) on your blog or you can sell them!

The awesome thing about printables is that you DO NOT need a blog to sell them! You can sell printables on Etsy or Shopify- but I’d highly recommend Etsy because it’s a lot less expensive.

Creating printables can seem daunting at first- don’t you need like a graphic design degree or something?

NOPE!

All you need is a free design platform (like Canva or Powerpoint) and some enthusiasm for learning.

Some ideas for things you could make:

  • Beautiful cards for different occasions
  • Planner/Tracker/Journal
  • Small clip art designs for scrapbookers
  • Letter templates to Santa
  • Calendars
  • Checklists
  • Kids activity pages

Here are some examples of free printables Suzi has for people to download in exchange for their email address.

Suzi has a free video on how to create freebies and printables– it is so eye opening and beginner friendly.

If you do decide to make printables, she also offers a free user guide for Picmonkey. Picmonkey is a paid design platform but they offer a free 7 day trial if you want to check it out.

Photography

Do you have a knack for taking photos? So many photography sites are looking for stock photo contributors.

That means you take photos and sell them to the stock sites. Then people who need stock photos sign up and you get a percentage of each photo sale!

Although you don’t need any special skills, signing up for a beginner photography class might be a good idea- even to learn about camera settings, angles and lights. There are a ton of cheap courses on Udemy for specific cameras or even iPhone cameras.

Websites to sell your photos to:

Cleaning Houses

This is a good idea if you are a stay at home mom with kids already in school.

Cleaning houses is an amazing job because YOU make your own hours, your own wage and the decision to accept a job or not – just saying, some jobs you might want to turn down. And you CAN.

For a while, I worked for a woman who owned a cleaning company. She charged $25 and hour and paid her staff $11 an hour. Smart for her, dumb for me! What was I thinking??

With the internet and free listing sites like Craigslist, you can market yourself and create your own business. And if you get lots of clients and are really good at your job- eventually you can be hiring people to work for you! (If you want that.)

Start with a promotion- your first 5 clients get the first 4 hours at a cheaper rate- like $15 an hour instead of $30. Go in, work your butt off and give them a reason to have you back and call their friends and tell you about them!

If you’re going to do this, please do some research on quick cleaning techniques and how to clean things efficiently.

When I applied for my cleaning job, the woman who hired me had me clean her bathroom as a test- I failed miserably because I spent an hour in there making things look perfect! She told me a bathroom should take 20-25 minutes TOPS. Just because you’re busy for an hour doesn’t mean you’re being productive. (Also… please don’t let someone clean your bathroom for an hour for an interview lol.)
