How to Make a Spinach Dip Wreath
Step 1: Prepare the Bread Wreath
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 12-cup fluted tube cake pan with cooking spray.
Remove the French bread dough from both cans without unrolling it. Place the dough in the pan in a circle, pinching the ends together to seal it into one ring.

Step 2: Bake the Bread
Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully removing it. Transfer it to a cooling rack and let it cool completely for another 30–40 minutes.
Step 3: Make the Spinach Dip
While the bread cools, prepare the dip.
Thaw the frozen spinach and squeeze out as much excess water as possible. Drain and chop the water chestnuts.
In a large bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, spinach, Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix, and chopped water chestnuts. Stir until everything is evenly mixed.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dip until you’re ready to assemble the wreath.

Step 4: Hollow Out the Bread
Once the bread wreath has cooled completely, use a knife to cut out the center portion of the top of the bread. Remove most of the bread from inside the ring to create space for the spinach dip.
Be careful not to cut all the way through the bottom or sides of the wreath.

Step 5: Fill the Wreath
Spoon the chilled spinach dip into the hollowed-out center of the bread wreath, filling it generously.

Step 6: Add the Tomato Ornaments
Cut the cherry tomatoes in half if desired, then arrange them over the spinach dip to look like little Christmas ornaments.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy
Place the spinach dip wreath on a serving platter and serve with crackers and the reserved bread pieces for dipping.
Tips for the Best Spinach Dip Wreath
- Squeeze the spinach well: Removing excess water helps keep the dip thick and creamy instead of watery.
- Cool the bread completely: Filling a warm bread wreath can make the dip warm and affect its texture.
- Chill the dip before serving: Refrigerating the dip gives the flavors time to blend and keeps it refreshing.
- Prepare the dip ahead: Mix the dip in advance and keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to assemble the wreath.
- Save the bread pieces: Serve the bread removed from the center alongside the wreath so nothing goes to waste.
What to Serve With Spinach Dip Wreath
This festive appetizer pairs well with:
- Crackers
- Pieces of the French bread wreath
- Sliced baguette
- Fresh vegetable sticks
It’s a great addition to a Christmas appetizer spread, holiday buffet, or festive potluck.
Can You Make Spinach Dip Wreath Ahead of Time?
Yes! You can prepare the spinach dip in advance and refrigerate it until serving time. You can also bake the bread wreath ahead and allow it to cool completely.
For the best presentation, wait until shortly before serving to hollow out the bread and fill it with the dip. This helps prevent the bread from becoming soggy.
How to Store Leftovers
Refrigerate leftover spinach dip promptly in an airtight container. Store any leftover bread separately, if possible, to help it maintain its texture. Keep the dip refrigerated and follow standard food-safety guidance for perishable appetizers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use fresh spinach instead of frozen spinach?
This recipe calls for frozen chopped spinach. If substituting fresh spinach, cook it first, allow it to cool, and squeeze out as much moisture as possible before mixing it into the dip.
Why does the spinach need to be squeezed dry?
Frozen spinach holds a lot of water. Removing the excess moisture helps the dip stay thick and creamy.
Can I serve the spinach dip without the bread wreath?
Absolutely! The spinach dip can be served in a regular bowl with crackers, bread, and fresh vegetables. The wreath simply adds a festive presentation.
Can I use the bread removed from the center for dipping?
Yes! Cut or tear the reserved bread into bite-sized pieces and arrange them around the wreath for serving.
